March Sweatdown 2K25

The March Sweatdown 2K25 is here and honestly I don’t remember my 40th birthday so did I even turn 40? Guess so! Welcome to March!
The Sweatdown has existed since April of 2018 as a monthly collection of music I’ve been listening to. Sometimes it’s old tracks but it’s usually new music. Everything from indie to synthwave to rock to alternative and more. Every December is a culmination of the music I’ve listened to.
Here’s some thoughts on some of the artists and songs on this month’s playlist:
I absolutely had to put up Roddy Piper by Casper Skulls I’m just a sucker for a song named after a pro wrestler.
Post Sex Ping Pong by SOAP might be the silliest name for a song I liked.
I Can’t Stop by Spitalfield comes from a recommendation from my friend Taylor Morley on Twitter. Saw she praised the song, clicked it, and liked it. It’s that easy to find new music!
I can’t recall how I found Strangers I used to Love by The Wilderness, a band I was sure was British but actually from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The chorus might be my favourite chorus in months:
I’m making small talk with strangers who I used to love
About Canadian winters and how much it hurtWe all know how much those Canadian winters hurt. The but the idea it’s small talk with strangers “I used to love” is so fascinating. Are they people who used to be close but are now strangers, or were they always strangers? The following line, “Do they see a stranger when they look at me?” likely answers that question.
I actually found She’s In Parties from their cover of Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears but I ended up looking through their catalogue and found “Velveteen” from their End Scene EP in 2023 and I ended up liking that song more.
I also already had an 80s cover with LeBrock doing U2’s “WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME” and didn’t want one too many. Solid cover by LeBrock.
